When the saxophonist David Liebman unwinds onstage, he unleashes waves of sound that recall his days with Miles Davis in the early 1970s. Offstage, he’s a bit more subdued. Sipping a beer after a volatile set at the Greenwich Village club Smalls last month, he mused about Expansions, his first new band in 23 years — and the one he will bring to the Hudson Valley Jazz Festival next month.

Jazz News: The Hudson Valley Jazz Festival

The 6th Annual Hudson Valley Jazz Festival takes place August 27-30. The festival features new venues, artists, and two Grammy Award winners, including festival headliner Wallace Roney. With performances in Peekskill, Chester, Pine Island, Sugar Loaf, New Paltz, Kingston as well as home-base Warwick, new venues include Christopher's Bistro, Rogowski Farms, Gomen-Kudasai, and Blooming Grove Farms.

Warwick Valley Jazz Festival First Annual!

The first annual Warwick Valley Jazz Festival, produced by drummer Steve Rubin was a success. With sax great Bill Evans, Arturo O'Farrill, Mark Egan and Marcus Gillmore, the village of Warwick was treated to a blend of known jazz pioneers and an assortment of local talent. A great deal of interest has been simmering up from musicians to local venues to those who attended the 4 day event. Keep posted to site at www.warwickvalleyjazzfest.com for information on 2011.
